Could anyone let me know if a protocol has been written to give information on when past Mayors are able to wear their badge of office? Many thanks

Hi,

Although I've already shared this with Erewash, I've got a little protocol that we provide to the wearers of Past Mayors badges so that they are clear about this. Am happy to send to anyone who's interested.

I'm sorry for such a long delay in reply and I'm sure you've had lots of guidance but as a retired Civic Officer my advice used to be that if it was a civic ceremonial event and the Mayor was present then the past badges could be worn. If the Councillor was in doubt and our Mayor was not present then I would ask them in what capacity they had been invited, ie as the Past Mayor of our Borough or in another capacity.. Some of our town councillors were sometimes confused if they were invited to a town council event when I would advise it was not appropriate to wear the Borough past mayor badge as it was not one of our events.
Best regards
