Queen's Jubilee Beacon Lighting

At Exeter City Council we are in the process of deciding if we should be lighting a gas beacon as part of the Queen Jubilee Celebrations, considering the environmental impact on burning fossil fuels is having on climate change.
We are thinking that maybe instead of lighting a beacon, that we may light our Historic Guildhall purple instead, but before we make a final decision, we were wondering if any one agrees or disagrees with our proposal.

Most local authority's have declared Climate Emergencies and must consider the impact on all it's business on the environment. There are a number of alternatives that would be looked at, as well as planting additional trees for the Queen's Green Canopy (https://www.queensjubileebeacons.com/carbon-offsetting) you can light up a building or even consider projecting an image of a lit beacon onto a suitable backdrop

Hi, our Councillors were having this discussion a few months ago. In the end it was decided to host a beacon lighting event but we would encourage the local community to think about their transport to the event and use environmentally friendly businesses to support our event planning. The deciding factor was that this may be likely that we are going to be light the beacon for Her Majesty, and it's such a significant milestone to be celebrating in civic history.
Like Tracy suggested, we will also be planting additional trees for the Queen's Green Canopy which our members were very keen in supporting.
